IKEA - 27.07.07

I found this girl when she was about to enter the elevator to the basement at IKEA. She's not a local, I think, because the people she was with were speaking Indonesian. And I might have spelled her name wrongly.

Central Market Annexe - 14.07.07

Aiman belongs to an indie punk rock band called Civil Disorder. Check out the band's Myspace. This picture was taken at the ricecooker shop, where you can buy zines, albums by underground bands, reading materials and other DIY stuff.

KLCC - 14.07.07

KLCC Park is a good place to people-watch. It was a favourite among the skinheads, punks, hip hoppers and Mat Rempits several years back but now, it's favoured by most indie-emo kids.

These boys admire Mika's and Oliver Sykes' fashion sense.

These girls are from Jakarta, Indonesia.

Apparently the guy in the picture mysteriously found my blog on the day after this picture was taken.

Check out this guy's CHANEL t-shirt. He was carrying a deflated ring buoy.

One Utama - 18.06.2007

Robin and Kai are from Temerloh, Pahang [a town famous for Ikan Patin (a kind of catfish)]. They are here in KL to become hairdressers. Some of the magazines that inspire them are VOGUE, i-D and NYLON. The kind of clothes they wear usually come from bundle [second-hand] shops, and they are looking for good bundle shops in KL.

Junk Figure 8ight at Central Market Annexe - 16.06.2007

Faiz likes to shop at TOPMAN and fourskin. One fashion trend that turns him off is baggy pants. Azreen usually does her shopping at One Utama, TOPSHOP and Naf Naf. She's not into mismatched clothing.

Faizal's friends often describe his style as "suave" and "weird". He shops at Levi's and TOPMAN. One of the items off his wishlist is a pair of Levi's Copper Jeans. On Adib's wishlist, however, he plans on getting a new life. The tees that they are modelling were designed by one of the designers from this event.

Maike and Bas are from Netherlands, and they were in Kuala Lumpur for a holiday.

Nurul Huda is a fashion designer from Kolej Lagenda. Her favourite place to shop is at Levi's KLCC.

These girls are from Taman Melawati. Some of the places they enjoy shopping at are F.O.S., thrift stores and Sungei Wang. Other times, they attend tuition classes.

Victoria Institution Carnival Day - 16.06.2007

Affira and Zera are students from Sekolah Menengah Jalan Cochrane. They like to do their shopping at Times Square.

Nik is schooling at Victoria Insitution. His clothes are mostly from TOPMAN, and he plans to purchase a pair of sneakers at Nike soon.

These girls are from Sri Aman Secondary. They get their clothes from all around the world. Check out Kira's 'Jail Paris' tee. And the way they are lined according to the tone of their pants, dark to light.

Laundry Bar at The Curve - 19.04.2007

Fairuz is dreaming of a saffron monk bag and fisherman pants. He tries to dress up "as fugly as possible", and he thinks Mat Rempits [illegal motorcycle racers] are really disgusting.

Bukit Bintang - 07.04.2007

Khairul is a call centre operator who dig simple looks, and at the same time admiring designers like Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen. The buttons on his slip-ons were sewed by himself. He was heading to Lot 10 when this picture was taken.

Zulhashmi is an interior display artist who works at MidValley. His look is inspired by his father, whom he claims to enherit the look. He describes his look "modern hippie". One of his favourite hang out is Kitaro Mamak behind BB Plaza.

Nicholas is from Austria and he's been living in Kuala Lumpur for nearly 2 years. This was shot in front of a New Age shop at Jalan Mesui called Lightworks.

(I'm not really sure if Nicholas is his name, because I didn't record it. If you know the real name of this person, let me know).

A warm-up.

I've always enjoyed photographing people on the streets. These are pictures I took back in 2004, the time when I didn't know street fashion blogs exist.

Welcome to our blog. Selamat datang ke blog kita.

Hello everyone. You have reached our very own street fashion blog, based in the city of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I'm Aina and I will be posting photographs of people in KL and its surroundings, both locals and foreigners, wearing clothes that best represent how we dress like in general, not just the ones who are fashion-forward. Sometimes my friend JK helps me with my shooting. I will try to update this blog at least once a week, but for now, let's enjoy the pictures I have compiled from my past shoots.
